Burns Equipment

Burns injuries in LMIC, without proper treatment, are often devastating. With this area of care being particularly under resourced, Medical Aid International offers a variety of solutions which combat this challenge.

The Challenge

Burn injuries are a major but often overlooked global health issue. Millions in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) suffer severe burns every year due to open fires, unsafe cooking conditions, overcrowded homes, and limited access to emergency care, with children being especially vulnerable. Burns can lead to disability, stigma, loss of income, and preventable death.

Current estimates highlight the scale:

  • ≈180,000 deaths annually, mostly in LMICs
  • 8–9 million non-fatal burn injuries each year
  • Young children and women are disproportionately affected

Many hospitals in LMICs lack proper dressings, safe surgical systems, and trained staff, turning survivable injuries into life-changing events.

Fit-for-Purpose Equipment
We provide sustainable, context-appropriate equipment, including burn dressings, electric dermatomes, meshers, and handheld skin graft knives all vital in severe burns cases. We can also supply fully equipped operating departments.

Sustainable Systems
We help hospitals establish rehabilitation pathways and ongoing care systems, creating long-term improvements in patient outcomes.

Tailored Support
We work with partners to assess needs, design burn-care packages, train staff, and ensure everything can be used, maintained, and sustained locally.
